1. Koenigsegg Agera R
Top speed: 273 mph
0-62 mph: 3 seconds
The latest design from the Swedish mind of Christian von Koenigsegg will -- according to preliminary documents from Koenigsegg -- top the fastest Veyron by 7 mph.
2. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
Top Speed: 267 mph
0-60 mph: n/a
The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport set a record for production cars July 2010 at the company's test track. The cars that people can buy, though, have their top speed limited to a mere 258 mph, to save the tires, they say.
3. SSC Ultimate Aero
Top Speed: 257 mph
0-60 mph: 2.8 seconds
One of the fastest cars on the planet isn't made in Italy -- it's not even made in Europe. It's made in Eastern Washington state with a massive 1287 hp from a V8 engine, if you can believe it.
4. Bugatti Veyron
Top speed: 253 mph
0-60 mph: 2.5 seconds
Well, this should surprise exactly no one: the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 tops the list of fastest cars in the world. And at $2 million, it's up there on the list of world's most expensive cars, too.
5. Koenigsegg CCXR
Top speed: 250-plus mph
0-62 mph: 3.1 seconds
The Koenigsegg CCX does fine on its own, with 806 hp, but the CCXR can guzzle ethanol, which ups its output to 1018 hp. E85, a blend of 85% ethanol, 15% gasoline, has a higher octane rating and greater cooling capacity, delivering faster times with the same exhaust temperature.
